Configure AR Mapping Settings on Microsoft HoloLens II

How to create folders, areas, and link anchors and markers during the AR mapping process on Microsoft HoloLens II?

On this new menu, it is possible to create folders and areas, manually or by voice commands. In addition, it is also possible to map, edit, and delete areas, and link anchors and markers during the mapping process.

This new feature can be found in the release note version 0.77.0

1. Create Folders and Areas

In the left menu select the "Mapping" tab.

If this is the first time you are accessing the mapping menu, it is possible that you don't have any folders or areas. Folders are useful for organizing your areas. Within each folder, you can have several areas grouped together.

1.1. Create a new folder

To create a new folder or area, just tap the "Add" button.

Then tap "Add Folder"

A new menu will appear where you can give your new folder a name.

Then all you have to do is press "Create"

The new folder will then appear on your table.

Note: You can also add folders by using voice commands. You just need to say "Add folder".

1.2. Create a new area

You can create new areas directly on the mapping menu or inside a folder for optimal organization. In any case, simply press the "Add" option.

Then press the "Add Area" option.

A new window will appear where you can enter information about your new area.

Capture and upload a cover photo by snapping a picture, assigning it a name, and providing a brief description. Once you've filled in the required fields, be sure to click "Save".

The new area will then appear on your table (or inside the folder where you created the area).

Note: Note: You can add folders by using voice commands. You just need to say "Add folder".

1.3. Edit an area profile

Once the areas have been created, you can still edit their profile information. To do this, simply enter the area in which you want to edit the information and press "Edit"

You can edit the name and description, but that's not all. You can also change the cover photo. To take a new photo, just click on "Take Picture"

Note: You can also remove the picture by clicking on the "X" white button.

You can also delete the area by clicking on the "Delete" option.

Once you've made all changes, don't forget to click "Save".

2. Mapping areas

To map an area, you need to go to the area you want to start mapping and open it.

Then, inside the area profile, select the option "Start Mapping"

During the mapping process, if you raise your hand a menu will appear with the options "Add Anchor" and "Add Marker".

During the mapping process will always be divided into two steps:

  • Create Anchors: Anchors need to be created first as they are responsible for identifying all markers within 3 meters.

  • Create Markers: Once the anchor is created, we can create bookmarks to link to sites or elements. Markers are augmented reality representations of where locations or elements are in space, and mentioned, need to be within 3 meters of the anchor.
